Cooking and Housekeeping Courses

We offer a series of cooking and housekeeping classes for both new and experienced helpers.

A MESSAGE FROM THE TRAINER

Doris Yong

I've been training domestic helpers (both foreign and local) in cooking and housekeeping for over 35 years, and my experience has taught me the importance of understanding different cultural habits and norms. Over the years, I developed an easy-to-follow cooking and housekeeping syllabus, specially designed for foreign domestic helpers. As an employer, one cannot expect foreign helpers to adapt to our cultural norms without proper training and assistance.

Our cooking course is designed to provide students with complete training on all the stages of cooking - the preparation, the actual cooking and the cleaning up after. Experienced cooks may opt for our Intermediate Cooking Course, which includes a wide menu of local and international dishes - many of which are my own tried and tested recipes. The cooking lessons are a hands-on experience, and students get to bring back their food for their employers to enjoy after each lesson.

I also teach all students proper methods of storage to avoid wastage, as well as the nutritional value of basic food items.

Our Housekeeping Course teaches domestic helpers proper cleaning and tidying techniques, laundry procedures, as well as how to manage their daily schedule of tasks.

A good helper with proper skills may be hard to come by, but with proper training and a good attitude, we believe that it's not so hard after all.

Basic Cooking Course

The Basic Cooking Course is for helpers who have no experience in cooking. After each lesson, students will get to bring home the cooked food for their employers to sample. They will also be taken to the wet market (e.g. K.K. market, China Town market) to learn how to shop for fresh produce. The course covers both the basics of cooking and cleaning/maintenance of the kitchen.

Intermediate Cooking Course

The Intermediate Cooking Course is for helpers who already have basic experience in cooking, and would like to expand their cooking repertoire. The series of 10 classes cover a range of cuisines, including Singapore Hawker Favourites, Chinese, Western, Indian, Thai and Vegetarian dishes. The course can be tailored to suit the employer's taste preferences or dietary requirements.

Housekeeping Course

We offer a series of training classes for domestic helpers who are inexperienced in cleaning, washing and household maintenance. The course teaches them the proper cleaning techniques for household furniture, laundry procedures, and how to work household appliances. Helpers will also be given a training manual to refer to, as well as a schedule of tasks to follow daily.
